Club Med Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Club Med SAS, commonly known as Club Med and previously known as Club Méditerranée SA, is a Chinese-owned company headquartered in France, specializing in all-inclusive holidays. The company is primarily owned by Fosun Group and either wholly owns or operates over seventy all-inclusive resort villages in holiday locations around the world.

A traveler shared his experience with Club Med, "I made a reservation for Club Med in Florida for August trip on May 29, 2020 for the trip in August. I read the cancellation policy to make sure that I could cancel the trip if needed because of the pandemic and Florida quarantines people from NY for 14 days. I wish I took a screenshot that day. It said on their website that if I booked and cancelled 15 days before my reservation date, I would get 100% refund including my membership fee of $150, 2 adults and 1 child. $150 is a lot of money for membership. If I didn't think, I could get this money back; I would have never booked this trip. ClubMed should have done the right thing during this pandemic and refund the membership fee. I felt ripped off by this company. I called their corporate office in Tempe, AZ and even talked to the supervisor that did not want to help me at all. They said they will refund me the deposit minus $150 membership fee that I did not even use."

"Totally unresponsive, uncaring and clueless management. Ridiculously high employee turnover rate , abusive hours , verbal abuse directed towards employees. Chaotic , understaffed environment that totally lacks professionalism. Young, enthusiastic staff totally unsupported and set up to fail. Employee accommodations not properly cleaned, staph infected equipment and surfaces. Unsafe conditions for both staff and guests. This company has gone totally down hill. It doesn't have a clue how to operate within the hospitality industry. Management has no clue how to schedule , train , manage or properly utilize staff to run a resort. Total disgrace.Entire staff overwhelmed, overworked with no direction. Minimum 65 hour work week. The resort operates the same programs year round, yet has no basic standards or systems for operation. All programs poor operation...front desk/ childcare/ recreation/ food and beverage."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"Very low pay rate, poorly organized, GE employees (local employees who do NOT live on property) undervalued, inefficient practices, resistance to change and improvements, guests are informed that tipping is prohibited (so it happens rarely), the company does NOT seem to live up to the values it claims to embrace in its employee handbook, lots of drama, lack of enforcement of negative consequences for people who break rules or behave inappropriately, no work-life balance, etc."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"Lots of office politics and favoritism/nepotism and oppressive micro-management is endemic to the organization. Many of the non-French employees felt like they were treated less favorably than their colleagues of French citizenship and was cause for resentment. The company still hasn't turned itself around after years of trying and remains unprofessional and painfully inefficient, which is a cause of much frustration. Lack of investment in upgrades both in the office and on property (decades old IT systems) make matters worse. Benefits were decent, but pay was low and prospects for advancement are dim at best."

Former Employee - Director says

"Unproductive discussion without converting to action"

Former Employee - Finance says

"Very low salary for 10 to 12 hours a day of actual office work and after they demand that you stay all night long eating ,drinking and dancing with the clients, because"it's obligatory",even though it's not in your job description. Also , they ask you to get the clients in their rooms when they arrive ,even if it's midnight and you don't work for the reception ."

Current Employee - Waiter says

"Before I wasn't self confident but after finding a new job I am so confident ."

Majordome (Former Employee) says

Hebergement (Former Employee) says

Bagagiste (Former Employee) says

Entertainment Tech (Former Employee) says

"The only reason that I took the time to apply and interview with Club Med is because the specific Indeed job posting listed the compensation as 35-40K. I believe this was an intention fabrication in order to generate online interest and draw applicants to their "business". After wasting several days of my time to obtain a video chat (FaceTime) interview with an official Recruiter, I eventually learned that the listed compensation numbers where not only false, but grossly out of line with market reality. I was offered a six day a week, 12-16 hour day, highly technical and demanding position, for a salary of $1000.00 per month. A rate that represented less than a third of the posted compensation, and if accepted would have had me "earning" between $2.60 and $3.47 per hour on average. I believe this company purposely seeks a staff of largely inexperienced and youthful interns as opposed to hiring regular employees. This is a business model that smacks of exploitation and is designed to retain profits while obtaining a powerless and expendable workforce. Club Med is worth $1.6 Billion, and it's parent company generates $16.4 Billion in revenue, with $93.1 Billion in assets, with profits around $2 Billion. It is more than probable that their questionable employment practices have more to do with their financial success than their all inclusive resort offerings, and their guest's patronage. I do not doubt that internationally this company provides workers with earning possibilities that are commensurate with their accompanying nation's economic norms, but don't urinate downGives children a place to live and a sandwichSee Review"

Guest Jane says

"Went to Turks Club Med Jan 2021. Had to get a negative covid test to return to US. My test was positive - because the resort is covid central with many infected guests and employees. Government official locked us in our room and we could not come out for a mandatory 14 day quarantine. Club Med provided \"insurance\" covered $97/day for hotel bill which was inflated to $13,000 for the 14 day quarantine. We were forced to come up with the difference. No insurance covers the hotel bill, only the medical bills. Beware of this trap. "

Angela Grimshaw says

"One star as I can’t give no stars. Still waiting for a refund if a holiday booked for 15th March - £16k of hard earned money they still owe and no nearer getting a refund than we were on day one. Lots of empty promises - will never use this chain again and would advise everyone else not to either."

Steve Kemish says

"Disgusting service. Going in the face of the industry and the law, they continue to refuse to refund us our holiday. They could have kept me as a rebooking customer for next year (and years after) if they had given me control of money, but instead they have done everything to avoid a refund. Crooks.

I will never use them again and recommend the same to anybody i meet."

Keith says

"I booked a 2 week Club Med package ski holiday in France from 8-22 March 2020 for myself and my wife. Club Med cancelled the second week by email at 10 PM on 14 March 2020 while we were in resort. They were unable to supply us with any return transport leaving us high and dry in a ski resort closing down that night. A request to stay in the club that night was refused and we faced being out on our ear unless we could get a taxi to Geneva. Luckily we did, without any help from Club Med and managed to get flights home at huge extra cost. They ignored our claim for a refund and, to date, have not responded to our claim in any way. Worse, they responded to our credit card company to say they had already refunded us “by voucher” (a lie) which led to our claim being rejected. They have now had the audacity to send me adverts suggesting I make a new booking. How they think this behaviour is acceptable is beyond me.

UPDATE:- After having to raise a small claim against my credit card company, I finally extracted an email address from Club Med which resulted , after a bit of further delay, in a full refund and payment of repatriation costs, over 6 months after making the claim. In case it helps anyone else still awaiting a refund, email Lou-Anne.Hoarau at clubmed.com."
